With the release of Biotech there's a lot of new players who are trying to figure out how to play the game and design their base etc, so I figured I would write this to help out. In my opinion, the most efficient way to design your base is using 5 wide and 7 wide segmented hallways. There's a few reasons for this I'll go over below.

The more mods the players has, the more prefabs the catalog will contain. For optimal experience, you should use Vanilla Expanded mods, as the majority of prefabs were built around them.

I'm not against new features for the ship, i've built them without calling for traders and using deep mining, just waiting for mechanoids and praying for the RNG god of uranium. Long hallways connecting things, occasionally linking any hallways together. Make a kitchen, with the freezer behind it, dining room next to the kitchen, with a fridge (mod) for meals. Then I set up 1 large stockpile for all the materials, with a bit production room or 2 adjacent to that. What I like to do is plan out the intended shape first, then build a piece of the final megabase and just move in. In the future it's supposed to be a crafting room, but for now it's a barracks+kitchen+hospital+dining+rec room. Repurpose the rooms as you go while building towards the goal. 2. true.
